Outline

Numerous firms across industries have invested heavily in their R&D departments, while ignoring the broader organization where creativity and innovation beyond R&D occur. Although advice abounds recommending firms pursue an innovation strategy, little information exists demonstrating how to go about it.

This issue is addressed by offering a Culture Management Model, predicated upon behavioural theory, illustrating how managers (regardless of company size, industry, or geography) can go about creating a durable culture of innovation using twelve “cultural levers”. A five-step approach for using the model to design innovation into an organization’s culture, along with an illustration of how the model was applied at a global bank are included. Finally, strategic management theory and the VRIO framework are used to explain the efficacy of the model and how applying it can create competitive advantage for firms. Tim will introduce his model with SMEs, who will then have a chance to apply this to their own business in a practical three-hour workshop.

Please note that the workshop is part-funded by European Regional Development Funded (ERDF) and is available to eligible SME applicants as part of phase 2 of the Innovation Support for Business (ISfB) programme. Sign up to this event to express your interest for an ERDF funded place and a member of the ISfB team will follow up with you. Please note that a place on the workshop will not be reserved through making an Eventbrite booking until you have completed and returned an ISfB application form to a member of the ISfB team. A maximum of one ERDF funded ticket per business is available. Please note that the tickets for eligible SMEs are for registered, Limited Companies or people registered for tax purposes as Sole Traders. Please do not try to register if you are a student or pre-start up.
